THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE
Rebecca Hawker Cert ECBS, ITEC,
Confidential, professional and caring therapist
The technique is named after its innovator
Tom lived in Geelong, Australia. Despite having taken no formal training or qualifications he soon became one of the busiest and most effective therapists of his time.
The Bowen Technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy. It involves no manipulation, no adjustments or high velocity moves. It differs from many other types of therapy as it does not attempt to inflict the will of the therapist or a specific outcome onto a patient. Instead the body is given the chance to restore structural integrity.
The treatment initiates a regulation process within the nervous system and therefore throughout the whole body. Symptoms quickly reduce, increased energy is restored and a sense of wellbeing is achieved.
The technique consists of a series of moves made across muscle, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The therapist uses light pressure applied by the fingers and thumbs to specific areas of the body to make a movement over the tissue. The process sends impulses to the brain which trigger the bodies own healing and rebalancing mechanism.
Its not possible to compare The Bowen Technique to any other therapy. There are occasional similarities with other therapies but there is nothing consistantly similar to be able to equate it to anything else already in existence.
The Bowen Technique is so non invasive that it can safely be used with babies and children right through to the elderly and infirm.
